Cadillac wants to launch a hypercar.

Although the idea of a manufacturer like Cadillac venturing into the hypercar segment might seem odd, it's not a bad one. In fact, I would even say it's the next step in the brand's development.

For the past few years, Cadillac has been particularly focused on two things: electric vehicles and performance. The V sport division has created several iconic models such as the CT4 V Blackwing, CT5 V Blackwing, and the Escalade V. Not to mention the regular V versions that remain civilized while offering a certain level of performance.

From the track to racing

As is often the case in this industry, production models stem from race cars. You might not know this, but General Motors' luxury division is heavily involved in motorsports. The Cadillac V-Series.R is as serious and spectacular a race car as they come. In fact, the brand is currently second in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship standings at the time of writing.

Cadillac has been contemplating offering a hypercar for many years, but the manufacturer has not found the time to complete the project until now. However, the chief designer of the American automaker recently confirmed in an interview with Australia’s CarSales magazine that the brand is working on a high-level sports car.

Of course, no further information was given about this possible hypercar, but that was enough to ignite the internet.

From concept to production

While the brand has been particularly active in the sports car arena in recent years, Cadillac has offered several performance models throughout its history. Notably, the Cadillac XLR was based on the Corvette of its time. However, the most interesting concept ever proposed by the brand remains the Cien, presented in 2002. This sleek, futuristic car could certainly have been a great success, but it never made it to the market.

For now, there are only rumors circulating on the subject, but according to some, Cadillac could use the Corvette platform, specifically the E-Ray version, with additional power. This should allow the brand to offer a car capable of competing with the likes of Bugatti, Koenigsegg, and other major brands. Perhaps it will simply be a 100% electric car. In short, we will have to wait for the brand's official announcement to know more.
